Connecticut general liability insurance

# Connecticut general liability. Turn the contract request into a coverage review.

A lease, customer agreement or new project often starts the search for liability insurance. The useful next step is to describe the business behind that paperwork. Daniel helps Connecticut owners prepare a quote that considers their activities, customers and contract requirements, with the proposed limits and outstanding questions explained before they decide.

## The quick answer

Connecticut general liability insurance can address covered third-party bodily injury, property damage and other liability defined by the policy. Compare operations, limits, exclusions and endorsements, not just the certificate or premium. Connecticut’s Insurance Department explains that a certificate cannot expand coverage or make its holder an additional insured by itself.

## Explain where and how the business meets customers.

Describe your premises, customer visits, products and services, including work performed away from the business address. A Connecticut retailer, mobile service operation and consultant can have different liability questions even at similar revenue. Include subcontractors and any work outside Connecticut. The broker needs the actual activity to check eligibility and exclusions. Report a new service or location when it changes rather than assuming the original business description remains adequate for the whole term.

## Distinguish a certificate holder from an additional insured.

Connecticut’s certificate guidance says the document provides evidence of insurance and cannot amend the underlying policy. A certificate holder does not become an additional insured solely by appearing on the certificate. Send the customer’s actual requirements so Daniel can review the applicable policy terms and endorsements. Ask what protection the requested status provides, when it applies and whether it is available. Adding words to a certificate is not a substitute for that review.

## Match limits and exclusions to the agreement.

Bring lease or project requirements before choosing a quote. Compare the per-occurrence limit, aggregate and any separate limits relevant to products or completed operations. Ask which claims share an aggregate and what deductibles or retained amounts apply. Review exclusions affecting your work as carefully as the large numbers on the proposal. If the contract asks for more protection, discuss available options without assuming that a larger stated limit removes an excluded activity.

## Identify the business exposures general liability does not replace.

Professional advice, employee injuries and use of vehicles raise coverage questions outside an ordinary general liability purchase. A business owner’s policy may combine liability with selected property and business-income protection for eligible operations, but it does not automatically solve every need. Explain equipment, inventory, employees and driving arrangements. Ask for a package comparison when appropriate and keep professional liability, workers’ compensation, auto and other relevant options visible as separate decisions.

## Prepare a clear quote and proof timeline.

Provide revenue or payroll estimates as requested, current insurance, claims information, operating locations and the desired start date. Ask whether the premium is auditable and how changes should be reported. Compare the full-term price, payment schedule and carrier charges. CoverTrust does not add an additional broker fee. Call Daniel with the business activity and contract deadline, or request a callback. Coverage and certificate availability depend on the policy, any required endorsements and carrier confirmation.

Local questions

## A clearer starting point.

### Does being a certificate holder mean my customer is insured?

Not by itself. Connecticut’s guidance distinguishes certificate holders from additional insureds. Review the policy and any endorsement supporting the requested status.

### Can general liability cover a mistake in professional advice?

Do not assume so. Professional-service claims can require professional liability coverage. Describe the advice or deliverables so the quote review addresses that exposure separately.

### Will a BOP always be the best way to buy liability?

No. Eligibility and property or business-income needs matter. Compare suitable package and standalone options using the same operations, limits and contract requirements.

### Can a certificate promise every term in my customer’s contract?

No. It must reflect actual insurance. Send the requirements early so Daniel can check available endorsements, limitations and any further insurer approval needed.
