Use your lease as the starting point
Have the apartment address, move-in date and the insurance section of your lease ready. Tell Daniel what proof the landlord requests and when it is due. Lease requirements are one part of the decision; you also need protection that fits your belongings and liability exposure. A document satisfying a lease does not by itself explain every limit, exclusion or claim-settlement condition in the policy.
Put a realistic value on your belongings
Walk through clothing, furniture, electronics, kitchen items and the things you keep in storage. An inventory can make the total easier to estimate. Compare replacement-cost and actual-cash-value settlement, the deductible and any special limits on valuables. Share higher-value items separately instead of assuming the overall personal-property limit guarantees that each item would be fully reimbursed after any type of loss.
Compare more than the monthly payment
Coverage choices, property limits, location and the deductible can affect renters insurance cost. Review personal liability and additional living expense coverage alongside belongings protection. Ask about the full policy-term cost, payment options and any available multi-policy discount. A bundle may be worth comparing, but check the combined protection and total price rather than assuming that putting two policies together always creates the better result.
Plan for the move and the policy documents
Tell the broker about roommates, a home business, valuable equipment or other circumstances that need a closer review. Ask who will be insured and which documents can be provided once coverage is confirmed. Keep the policy, proof of coverage and your inventory accessible. If you already have renters insurance, discuss the address change and effective date before assuming the same terms automatically apply at your new home.
Compare the details that matter.
